Rambo, a 16-year-old male Asian elephant now lives with his mahout in the village of Huay Pakoot, northern Thailand. Forced to return home from the elephant camp where he previously worked, he now helps his owner collect elephant grass gathered from surrounding community forests to provide his daily meals. The sudden collapse of the tourist industry in Thailand due to the COVID-19 pandemic pandemic restrictions has resulted in thousands of elephants and their owners (mahouts) being suddenly made redundant and subsequently forced to return to their home villages to rethink their future.
