Editorial use only’ Veterinarian (Natasha Bassett) examines a female Hardhead duck (Aythya australis) for shotgun wounds in a triage tent that was set up on the banks of a lake during the opening of duck hunting season in Victoria, Australia. These birds, whilst widely distributed through Australia, were noted at the time as vulnerable on the most recent Advisory List of Threatened Vertebrate Fauna in Victoria (2013), however were also listed as legal to hunt in Victoria by the Game Management Authority.
